POST M&M CONFERENCE

I must be losing my mind. In my last entry, I blogged about getting ready to go to Moonlight and Magnolias in Georgia and how my friend and critique partner, Cindy Thomason, was up for a Maggie award. That much was true. However -- and this is the proof that I am LOSING IT -- her nomination wasn't for her contemporary Superromance, HER SISTER'S CHILD, but for her historical release with Medallion Press, GABRIEL'S ANGEL. I don't know what I was thinking. Must have had a lot on my mind, like getting ready to travel to Atlanta, for one. I love to go places, absolutely adore sampling new environments and cultures, but I have to admit, plane travel leaves a lot to be desired, especially these days. I've never liked it. That rush to the airport lugging all those heavy suitcases, standing on line, waiting around, trying to get a bite to eat at those crowded and less than appetizing airport restaurants, and then the plane trip itself -- cramped, crowded, not particularly clean...need I go on? It's like a high-tech bus.

But on the other hand, the Moonlight and Magnolias conference WAS worth the inconvenience and the cost of traveling. Those Georgia ladies really know how to extend that Southern hospitality, and even with upwards of 300 attendees, I was made to feel welcome and that my experience there was important to them. So I made sure to tell people what a good time I had. Among the workshops I attended, the two most valuable to me were "Kicking up Your Career A Notch" with the lovely and mega-talented Roxanne St. Clair, and the talk with Sue Grimshaw, national romance buyer for the Borders Group. The booksigning was something of a madhouse -- about 70 authors and a good crowd. I sat with authors Janice Maynard, Tayna Michaels, Sabrina McAfee, Kathleen Long and Theresa McLaughlin and got to know them a little bit, and even managed to get myself on Barbara Vey's Publisher's Weekly blog.

And although I know the Georgia Romance Writers had nothing to do with this, I have to mention the weather. It was PERFECT! Especially to this South Floridian -- sweat, sweat. What a treat to feel that first slight twinge of autumn in the air, and even to see the very beginnings of fall colors in the trees (well, you really had to look, but I found it).

Anyway, my apologies to Cindy Thomason for totally getting it wrong! Here's her 2007 Maggie Nominated book:
